Douglas Adams (March 11, 1952 – May 11, 2001 was a British writer, most notable for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series of books, TV series, video games, and radio plays.
Adams also contributed several scripts to long-running BBC hit Doctor Who and served as the program's script editor during the controversial Season 17.
Although Adams was most interested in writing for radio and television, after the success of the Hitchhiker's Guide novels (based on his popular radio series), he became pegged as a book author. This eventually led to his penning the Dirk Gently series of novels.
