Doug Bradley

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Doug Bradley (b. September 7, 1954) was born in Liverpool and now lives in London with his wife and two children. It was while he was studying at Quarry Bank High School that he first met and worked with Clive Barker. After moving to London in 1977, he co-founded The Dog Company (a small-scale touring theatre company) with Barker and worked as the company’s leading actor over the next five years playing roles as diverse as the Devil, Dr. Frankenstein and a cartoon rabbit not very loosely based on Bugs Bunny. In 1986, Barker invited his old school friend to play the iconic leader of the demonic Cenobites – today known around the world as “Pinhead” – in the film Hellraiser. The film’s success led to the actor starring in a string of sequels: Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, Hellraiser: Bloodline, Hellraiser: Inferno, Hellraiser: Hellseeker, Hellraiser: Deader and Hellraiser: Hellworld. Bradley teamed up with Barker again in 1990, appearing as Lylesberg in Nightbreed. His other genre film credits include Proteus, Killer Tongue (La Lengua asesina), the CGI Dominator (which he also executive produced), Prophecy: Uprising, and such shorts as Driven, On Edge and Red Lines, based on stories by Christopher Fowler. He has been heard as Barlow the vampire in Stephen King’s 'Salem's Lot on BBC Radio, and since 2002 he has been performing his one-man show, An Evening with Death, a compendium of writings on the subject from Shakespeare to Barker. Bradley’s book Sacred Monsters (aka Behind the Mask of the Horror Actor) compares his own experience of playing Pinhead with that of other horror actors. It is based on the illustrated lecture The Man in the Mask, which he has performed at the National Film Theatre in London, the 1997 World Fantasy Convention and the 2000 British Fantasy Convention, among other venues. Inducted into Fangoria’s Hall of Fame in 1989, he is a regular guest at conventions on both sides of the Atlantic. In 1996 he won the Best Actor Award at the Fantafestival in Rome for his performance in Hellraiser: Bloodline, and he received a Career Achievement Award at the 25th anniversary Fantasporto festival.
