Dorothea "Dodo" Chaplet

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Dorthea Chaplet, better known as Dodo, was a character who appeared regularly during the second half of the third season of Doctor Who. When the TARDIS materialized in London 1966 at the end of season three story "The Massacre," Dodo wandered into the TARDIS thinking it was a real London police box. After persuading the Doctor and Steven to take her with them on their travels, she remained on board for several adventures until the TARDIS once again landed in 1966 London.

As played by actress Jackie Lane , Dodo was a cheery teenager who claimed to be an orphan. In a rare move for the time, producers had decided to allow the character to speak with a distinct lower class accent rather than the received English pronunciation required on most British programmes at the time. However, they quickly backtracked, asking the actress to tone down the accent in later episodes.

In the Season 3 closer, "The War Machines," Dodo was hypnotized by meglomaniacal computer WOTAN, which had begun trying its hand at human mind control. After breaking her out of her hypnotic trance, the Doctor sent her away to a country house to recover. Although the Doctor later hears that she had decided to stay on contemporary Earth, she never actually appeared on viewer's screens again.
