The Dread Dormammu is a fictional comic book super villain owned by Marvel Comics. He is one of the superhero magician Doctor Strange’s most powerful recurring foes. He is one of the great mystic beings of the universe. He has even battled the awesome entity, Eternity, the manifestation of the power of the entire universe.

Dormammu is the absolute ruler of his extra-dimensional world, known as the Dark Dimension. He is a giant humanoid being of incredible mystical power. Dormammu’s head is surrounded by the powerful Flames of Faltine, obscuring his facial features, whatever they may be.

Dormammu and his sister Umar were once a member of the Faltine, a powerful race of energy being. The two siblings were exiled to the Dark Dimension, where the two of them accumulated enough power to become its undisputed ruler.

Dormammu is so powerful that magicians from other dimensions can call upon his power to augment his own. Baron Mordo, one of Doctor Strange’s arch nemesis, has in the past had his own power augmented by Dormammu. He seems to derive a portion of his power form his worshippers, both of the Dark Dimension as well as others. He can travel between dimensions, transform his size, travel through time, transform matter, telepathy, energy manifestation and emission as weapons, and construct beings from pure magic. Many times, he has sought to access our dimension to conquer it, but has been stopped often by Doctor Strange and Clea, his lover and Umar’s daughter.
