Doomsday is a fictional comic book villain, introduced in the Superman comic series published by DC Comics. He is a true monster, best known for killing Superman in the famous 1992 Death of Superman storyline. Doomsday himself died in the same gut-wrenching battle, expiring just before the famous super-hero. Superman, of course, was restored to life some months later, through a variety of unlikely circumstances, but Doomsday's very power is to return to life after being destroyed, always more powerful than before, so that he can never be killed the same way twice.

Doomsday was developed by a scientist named Bertron of ancient Krypton, many thousands of years ago. Bertron sought to develop the "ultimate life-form", eventually developed a being that would re-create itself every time it was killed, retaining its previous deaths in its cellular memory, its new form powerful enough that whatever caused its previous destruction would fail to kill the new version. Doomsday has been killed so many times over the millennia, that he is now practicaly indestructable.

Like Superman, Doomsday gets its amazing power from solar energy. He does not need to eat or breath. Unlike human-looking Kryptonians, Doomsday has no internal organs and is mostly solid so that he has no weak spots or vulnerable areas.
