Doom is a science fiction horror computer game developed by id Software which was released on December 10, 1993. It is widely recognized as having popularized the first-person shooter genre of video games.

The storyline follows an anonymous space marine who is deported to Mars for assaulting a senior officer after being ordered to fire on civilians. There, while working as security for the Union Aerospace Corporation, the marine becomes involved in a demonic invasion which unexpectedly arrives from a parallel dimension by means of experimental teleportation gates under development by UAC.
