Donald Sutherland (b. July 17, 1935 ) is a Canadian actor and the father of Kiefer Sutherland (b. 1967). After establishing himself in a number of European horror films, such as Castle of the Living Dead (1964), Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors (1965) and Hammer’s Fanatic (aka Die! Die! My Darling, 1965), he briefly became fashionable in the late 1960s and early ’70s in films like Don’t Look Now (1974), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) and Murder by Decree (1979). He has now settled down as a superior character actor in such movies as Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992), The Puppet Masters (Movie) (1994), Outbreak (1995), Citizen X (1995), Fallen (1998), Virus (1998), Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001, voice only) and the TV remake of Stephen King’s 'Salem’s Lot (2004).
