Don S. Davis <span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>  Don Sinclair Davis (born August 4, 1942 – June 29, 2008) is an American actor in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri. Davis is best known for playing Major General/Lieutenant General George S. Hammond in the science fiction television series Stargate SG-1 (1997–2004), and earlier for playing Major Garland Briggs on the television series Twin Peaks (1990–1991).  Davis is a character actor, former theater professor, and a painter, and was a captain in the U.S. Army in the 1960s. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in theater and art from Southwest Missouri State College. He received a Master's Degree in theater from the Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1970. He taught for several years before returning to SIU to complete a Ph.D. in theater. He began working in the film industry in the 1980s, while teaching at the University of British Columbia. In 1987, he stopped teaching in order to pursue acting full-time. Davis grew up painting, sculpting, and drawing. In addition to his career as an actor, he was also a successful visual artist, spending most of his free time painting or carving. Davis died at the age of 65 from a massive heart attack in 2008 and was remembered in private ceremonies in Vancouver and Los Angeles. External Links
