Denise Michelle Crosby (November 24, 1957) is an American actress born in Hollywood, California to entertainer Dennis Crosby and Marilyn Miller Scott. Denise is the granddaughter of famed singer Bing Crosby. She is best known in the role of Security officer, Lt. Tasha Yar on the series Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Crosby's lengthy career in television began with a small role in 10, a comedy directed by her future father-in-law Blake Edwards. She went on to appear in Days of Our Lives, 48 Hours and two of Edwards movies, Trail of the Pink Panther and Curse of the Pink Panther.

She guest starred on several series including The Flash and appeared in the genre films Eliminators, Pet Sematary, and Flash III: Deadly Nightshade before landing the breakthrough role of Tasha Yar. She was originally slated to play the role of Counselor Deanna Troi while Marina Sirtis took on the role of Tasha Yar. Shortly before filming the pilot however, Gene Roddenberry switched the actors' roles.

Crosby decided to leave the series shortly before the end of the first season and her character was killed. She later reprized the role in the season 3 episode "Yesterday's Enterprise". She also played the Romulan Commander Sela in "Yesterday's Redemption, Part 1", and "Yesterday's Redemption, Part 3". She also appeared in the series finale "All Good Things..."

After TNG, Crosby appeared in Mutant Species and guest starred on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Diagnosis Murder, Threat Matrix, The X-Files, JAG and NYPD Blue. She also appeared in the movies Pumpkin Man and Deep Impact.

Personal Life

Crosby married Geoffrey Edwards in 1983 and they divorced in 1990. She married Ken Sylk in 1995 and the couple has one child.
