A demon is a supernatural being. Demons have origin in various religions of the world. In fiction, they are an archetype used primarily in fantasy and horror genres. They are usually associated with underworld mythos.
Judaism
In the Hebrew bible, Tanakh is the name given to demons, satyr-like creatures who dance in the wilderness and who are the same beings referred to as Jinn.
Islam
The writings of Islam acknowledge the existence of creatures known as Jinn or genies capable of being both good and evil. Evil jinn are known as devils. The first of these evil jinn was Iblis (Satan), the first to disobey Allah. Jinn are made of fire light.
Christianity
In the New Testament of The Bible, demons are depicted as malevolent entities capable of inhabiting human bodies causing them to become ill or behave abnormally. Such demons could be cast out by Jesus and his disciples.
In some Christian denominations, demons are fallen angels who abandoned or were cast out of heaven for mating with human women who then birthed Nephilim.
