Jackson DeForest Kelley (January 20, 1920 – June 11, 1999), an American actor born in Atlanta, Georgia, is identified with his role of Dr. Leonard McCoy (nicknamed "Bones") on the series Star Trek. Offered the chance to play Mr. Spock, Kelley instead chose the role of Dr. McCoy. He stated that he had wanted to become a doctor and couldn't—and went to become perhaps the best-known doctor in the galaxy.
He was known primarily as an actor in westerns before playing in what has been called "Wagon Train to the stars" (Star Trek).
When the second live Star Trek series (Star Trek: The Next Generation) debuted, Kelley repeated his Dr. McCoy character (although considerably advanced in years) in the pilot episode, providing a bridge between the two series for fans.
Genre appearances include Science Fiction Theater, Star Trek: The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Star Trek: The Next Generation—"Encounter at Farpoint," Star Trek: 25th Anniversary Enhanced, Star Trek: Judgment Rites, and The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars.

It's usually best to give a very general overview first, then specific details. When including the plot or essential details of a story in your article (which could ruin the pleasure of discovery for some readers), it is important to include the spoiler tag before any give-away material.
