Danny Farrell is a fictional character on the series The 4400 played by Kaj-Erik Eriksen. Danny was the younger brother of Shawn Farrell and cousin to Kyle Baldwin. Natural sibling rivalry between Shawn and his elder brother was heightened when Shawn was returned with the other 4400 the same age as when he left, now the same age as Danny. Danny's girlfriend, Nikki became interested in Shawn and Danny was angered believing Shawn had set out to steal his girlfriend. He also became convinced that Shawn was different, a freak. His fears were confirmed when Niki broke up with him because of her feelings for Shawn.
Danny was devastated and engaged his brother in a fight in which he was almost killed when Shawn unintentionally used his powers to draw the life out of him. He was stopped by the intrusion of their mother who kicked Shawn out.
Danny and Shawn later reconciled but there continued to be a divide due mostly in part to the weight of the responsibilities on Shawn's shoulders and Danny's jealousy of Shawn's special role.
In the series' fourth season, Danny was vocal in his desire to take promicin. Shawn was opposed to his choice believing it to be more a case of jealousy than any real desire to participate in Jordan Collier's plan for the future. Shawn got the promicin for him but convinced him to wait to take it in order to take it to see what happens over the next few months. ("Fear Itself")
When Dr. Kevin Burkhoff was able to make a sufficient determination of who would survive taking promicin, Danny proved a great candidate. He took the shot but his attempt to inform his mother of his decision resulted in her death. In fact, his ability proved to be viral. He caused anyone he came in contact with to become promicin positive. Shawn and Kevin quarantined him while the city tried to get a hold of the situation. He was also placed on the promicin inhibitor which suppressed his ability to spread the virus but he kept making the neurotransmitter which built up in his system and began hurting him. He rejected the option of being taken off the inhibitor knowing his choice would kill him. Rather than suffer a painful death, he asked Shawn to take his life.
In addition to Danny himself, several thousand people in Seattle died from the virus and several thousand developed an ability, altering the city forever. ("The Great Leap Forward")
