Daniel Jacob Radcliffe (b. July 23, 1989, in Fulham, London, England) is a British actor best known for playing young wizard Harry Potter in the films based on J. K. Rowling's novel series. He has appeared in five Harry Potter films and will appear in two more films in the series.
Radcliffe is the only child of literary agent Alan Radcliffe and casting agent Marcia Gresham. He attended the all-boys Sussex House School before moving on to the City of London School where he excelled. He also plays bass guitar, a skill he learned from Gary Oldman. Due to his appearance in the Harry Potter films, Radcliffe is one of the UK's richest teens with a fortune exceeding 14 million pounds.
Radcliffe's acting experience was limited before he auditioned several times and finally landed the life-changing role of Harry Potter. He had previously appeared as Young David Copperfield in a television production of the Charles Dickens novel David Copperfield. He made his film debut in The Tailor of Panama alongside Pierce Brosnan. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was his second major film. He appeared in the four subsequent adaptations of Harry Potter novels, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Harry Potter and the Prisoner Azkaban (2004), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. He is also expected to appear in the next films in the series Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2008) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (2010).
Radcliffe has expanded on his resume and appeared in the films December Boys based on the Michael Noonan novel. He is also filming the ITV drama My Boy Jack. In 2007, Radcliffe shocked fans with his appearance in the West End production The Play What I Wrote directed by Kenneth Branagh. He appears nude in the play and several promo images. The play marked his transition to more adult roles and earned him positive remarks from reviewers, impressed by his performance.
