Daniel Wroughton Craig (b. March 2, 1968) is a British actor born in Chester, England to Tim and Carol Olivia Craig. He was raised in Liverpool with elder sister Lea. Craig has become well known as the sixth actor to portray James Bond, taking on the role in the 2006 film Casino Royale. A 2008 film, Bond 22 is also planned in which he'll reprise the role.

Though Craig came to international attention when he was cast in Casino Royale, he had already been in the business for almost fifteen years as an actor. He began acting in school plays at age six. He acted throughout high school and at sixteen auditioned and won a place in the National Youth Theater in London. He later attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama at the Barbican and graduated in 1991 after three years of study under Colin McCormack.

Career

Craig made his film debut in 1992s The Power of One. Early television appearances included Covington Cross, Boon, Drop the Dead Donkey, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, and Heartbeat. Genre appearances included Tales from the Crypt, A Kid in King Arthur's Court, and The Hunger. He gained international attention in the 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. He followed up with Road to Perdition which also starred Tom Hanks and Paul Newman. Other starring roles include Copenhagen, Layer Cake, The Jacket, Archangel, Steven Spielberg's Munich, and The Invasion.

On October 14, 2005, Craig signed a three-film deal to appear as James Bond, starting with Casino Royale. His casting proved controversial and some fans threatened to boycott the film, due to his casting. They cited reasons, from his height and hair color; he is shorter than previous incarnations and is the only blond bond. Despite the controversy, the film was released on November 16 and proved to be a bigger hit than previous Bond film openings winning over many critics. Other notable roles include His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass, I, Lucifer, and Bond 22.

Personal Life

Craig married Fiona Loudon in 1992 and they had a daughter, Ella before divorcing in 1994.
