On October 14, 2005, Craig signed a three-film deal to appear as James Bond, starting with Casino Royale. Despite the controversy, the film was released on November 16 and proved to be a bigger hit than previous Bond film openings winning over many critics. Other notable roles include His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass, I, Lucifer, and Bond 22.
