Dan O'Bannon

Daniel Thomas O'Bannon (b. September 30, 1946) is an American screenwriter born in St. Louis, Missouri. Growing up, he was a fan of comics, particularly horror comics like EC Comics Tales from the Crypt. He also nurtured a love for horror films and wrote stories for Heavy Metal Magazine.

O'Bannon wrote his first feature film, the comedic scifi film, Dark Star with John Carpenter in 1974. The story focused on a deep space mission to destroy unstable planets in star systems designated for colonization. He followed up with the Sci Fi classic Alien on which he worked with Ronald Shusett and director Ridley Scott. He was credited on the film's sequels for the use of the characters created in the original film. O'Bannon's other work includes the 1981 film, Dead & Buried written with Jeff Millar, Heavy Metal, on which he worked on the story segments Soft Landing and B-17, The Return of the living Dead, Lifeforce, Invaders from Mars, Total Recall, Screamers, and Bleeders. O'Bannon also took a turn as a director, directing the 1992 film The Resurrected.
