The Dakara superweapon is a highly advanced Ancient technology in the Stargate universe. The device, located on the planet Dakara, was built by the Ancients to recreate life in the Milky Way following the devastating plague that decimated life on many planets. Though not designed as a weapon, its potential is evident given its capabilities.
The device is capable of breaking down matter into its constituent elements and can be reconfigured to target specific lifeforms or even all life in the galaxy. It works in tandem with the gate network. The gate on Dakara can be configured to dial all gates in the galaxy at once enabling the device, once activated, to send a wave of energy out to all planets in the network at once. It is presumed that this method can also be used to spark evolution but this is yet unproven.
Uses
Spoiler Warning: Plot details and/or information about the ending follow. If you wish to enjoy the work first, stop reading here and return at another time.
The Ancient technology lay unused for millions of years after the Ancients moved on. The device was first reactivated by Captain Samantha Carter and Jacob Carter and with the aid of the Goa'uld System Lord Baal, and used to wipe out the Replicators before they could take over the galaxy.
The partially ascended Goa'uld Anubis had intended to use the device for his own ends. He planned to destroy life in the Milky Way and recreate it in his own image, repopulating it with Kull Warriors who would be completely loyal to him. Anubis was stopped by Oma Desala before he could enact his plan.
Jaffa Nation
As the center of the Free Jaffa Nation, Dakara, and its dangerous technology, came into the possession of the Jaffa High Council. The Jaffa had previously agreed to destroy the technology, given its destructive potential, but kept the weapon intact for their own purposes. Baal became aware of this fact and sought to control the high council in the hopes of carryiing out Anubis's idea and wiping out most life in the galaxy as a means of eliminating the source of the Ori's interest in the galaxy.
In "Counterstrike", the Jaffa, under threat by The Ori, used the weapon to destroy human populations on planets recently converted to Origin. When they targeted a planet being visited by Adria, she forced a Jaffa warrior to reveal information on the weapon's location. Adria piloted and Ori vessel and destroyed the weapon and decimated Dakara.
Design
The Dakara device was protected by an Ancient combination lock on heavy doors. The doors are covered with Ancient writing and on the surface of the doors are five large circles that can be rotated. When the circles are angled accurately so the text is in the proper sequence, the door opens.
The control center
Beyond the large doors is the control center, reminiscent of the time control device seen in "Window of Opportunity". In the center of the room lies a pedestal with two columns of stone cubes that can be depressed to adjust the frequency threshold which tells the device what lifeform(s) should be targeted. Beyond this control center is a display for viewing the settings.
Energy wave emitter
The energy wave released from the device is directed from a domed structure at the top of the mountain. The device is usually covered but once activated opens up to reveal the actual weapon. Once activated, an energy charge builds up in the form of a bright blue light. Once fully charged, the weapons sends out a wave of energy in all directions, including through the stargate if activated.
The energy wave can reduce matter to its molecular components destroying everything on a planet's surface. The energy is capable of reaching out into space as well destroying anything in its path that meets the specifications.
