Curtis Harrington (b. September 17, 1926 – May 6, 2007) American director responsible for bringing style and sophistication to low budget projects. A friend of James Whale’s, he began his career in avant garde film-making, which directly influenced his atmospheric feature début, Night Tide (1961). After making the best he could from Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet (1964) and Queen of Blood (1966), he had some minor commercial success with Games (1967), What’s the Matter with Helen? (1971) and Who Slew Auntie Roo? (1971). After moving into television with such movies as The Cat Creature (1973), Killer Bees (1974), The Dead Don’t Die! (1975) and Devil Dog (1978), Harrington returned to the big screen with The Killing Kind (1976) and Ruby (1977).
