Synopsis
An alien artifact, a crystal human skull, on an alien planet causes Daniel to become invisible and intangible. SG-1 retrieves the skull hoping it has the secret to restoring Daniel. They seek out his grandfather, who found a similar artifact in Belize many years go and may be able to explain what has happened.
Summary
a MALP picks up evidence of neutrino radiation inside a vast offworld pyramid. SG-1 visits and discovers a crystalline human skull identical to one discovered in Belize in 1971 by Daniel's grandfather, Nick Ballard. After looking into the eyes of the skull Daniel is enveloped in light causing him to disappear. Teal'c attempts to stop the process by firing his zat but with no apparent effect. They have no time to figure out what has happened as they all begin to succumb to the radiation. They return through the stargate, leaving an invisible and unconscious Daniel behind.
Later, Teal'c, having recovered quickly from the radiation exposure, returns to the planet to retrieve the skull. Now conscious, Daniel returns through the gate with him, though Teal'c remains unaware of him.
Scientist, Robert Rothman is tasked with studying the skull to figure out what it has done to Daniel while SG-1 visits Daniel's grandfather who was exiled from the scientific community after he returned with claims of giant aliens who transported him to a vast cavern and said "The enemy of my enemy is my friend". Nick is now in a mental institution.
SG-1, with an invisible Daniel in tow, brings Nick back to the SGC and grants him restricted access with no knowledge of the Stargate program. When Nick is alone, he reveals he can see Daniel but he does not believe he is real as he has had hallucinations before. Daniel realizes that Nick's previous experiences rendered him able to see him. Daniel convinces Nick that he is very real and gets his help convincing General Hammond that he is still alive and they must return to the planet and complete the process that Tealc's zat blast interrupted.
On the planet, the skull is replaced and all of the group are surrounded by energy and are rendered invisible. All except for Teal'c who witnesses their disappearance and returns through the gate. Nick, Daniel, Jack and Sam are now able to see each other. A giant ethereal alien appears calling himself Quetzalcoatl and speaking the phrase "The Enemy of my enemy is my friend". Daniel realizes he is speaking of the Goa'uld as Teal'c was not transported with him due to his symbiote.
Daniel informs Quetzalcoatl that they are also enemies of the Goa'uld. Nick decides to remain to exchange knowledge and culture.
