Cronus, also known as Cronos or Kronos, is an ancient god from Greek mythology. His counterpart in Roman myth is Saturn. Cronus was the youngest of the first generation of Titans and their leader. He descended from Gaia, goddess of the earth, and Uranus, god of the sky. Cronus overthrew his father, Uranus, and took power. He ruled during the mythological Golden Age, until he was, in turn, overthrown by his own son, Zeus and imprisoned in Tartarus.
Cronus is associated with the virtuous Golden age, an as a result is worshiped as a god of the harvest, responsible for the success of agriculture. He may be most famous for his association with time in general. Cronus is often depicted with a sickle, used for harvesting crops and was also the weapon he used to overthrow his father Uranus and castrate him.
