Biography

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Born into a rich Sunnydale family, Cordelia was the person to know if you wanted to be considered cool at Sunnydale High School. She was a cheerleader and the leader of the most popular clique, a group that taunted those they considered beneath them. Instantly recognizing her kind, she tried to befriend Buffy Summers on Buffy's first day at her new school. Cordelia was precisely the type of person Buffy would once have been interested in, having once been in Cordelia's position at her old school. But after her experiences in Los Angeles, being rejected by friends like Cordelia, Buffy was more drawn to the "losers" Willow and Xander whose friendship was more honest.

After rebuffing Cordelia's attempts at friendship, Buffy became anathema to Cordelia. But when her life was threatened and Buffy saved her, Cordelia became slightly less antagonistic toward her. Once she discovered that Buffy was the slayer she began spending more time with Buffy's friends. Much to her own surprise and the disgust of her friends, she began dating Xander Harris with whom she'd traded more than a few insults. They eventually broke up when she caught Xander and Willow kissing. Cordelia was hurt and angry by the betrayal and distanced herself from Xander and his friends.

Despite diminished popularity that resulted from dating Xander, she soon made up with her old friends. Her awareness of the monsters and evil in Sunnydale and Buffy's role in fighting it altered her outlook, however. While she was determined to maintain the facade of flightiness, she wasn't nearly as self-absorbed as she wanted to appear.

Shortly before graduation, Cordelia's family suddenly lost their wealth. Cordelia went to great lengths to maintain the pretence that everything was ok. She took a job at a local dress shop in hope of slowly paying for her prom dress. She was unable to do so but despite the ending of their relationship, Xander paid for Cordelia's dress as a gift and she was extremely grateful. Unable to pay for college, after high school Cordelia cut all ties in Sunnydale and moved to L.A. to become an actress.

Angel

While in L.A., Cordelia came across Buffy's ex-boyfriend, the vampire with a soul, Angel. Unable to get worthwhile acting job and forced to steal food from parties while living in a dump, she convinced him to hire her as his assistant. She was able to get a nice apartment, reduced in price because it happened to be haunted. She dealt well with the situation, and made friends with her ghostly roommate.

When Angel's other assistant, the half demon Allen Francis Doyle, sacrificed his life to save the world, he kissed Cordelia and passed on his gift for visions. This gift, meant for demons, caused her great pain but helped Angel in his work for the divine Powers that Be.

When the Angel Investigations office blew up, Cordelia allowed the team to run from her apartment until they could find another building. She was all too pleased when Angel found an abandoned hotel to run their business from. As the visions continued to take their toll, Cordelia successfully hid the effects from the rest of the team and managed to persuade Angel to take street vampire hunter, Gunn on as a fully paid member of the team.

When Angel's inability to save Darla brought out the darker side of his character, Cordelia took his betrayal very personally but keeps Angel Investigations going with former Watcher, Wesley Wyndam-Pryce and Gunn. Even when Angel had and epiphany and returned to the fold, Cordelia found it hard to forgive him.

When she received a vision of a librarian in trouble, the team managed to open a portal to Pylea, the hosts home dimension and out of it pops a beast and Lorne's cousin Landok. The team tried to send Landok back home but Cordelia was taken along with her and found herself in Pylea, a dimension unfriendly to humans. She became a human slave until her visions lead the Pyleans to believe that she was their long awaited princess. As princess she must Com Shuk with the Groosalugg. However, when she learns that mating with him will lead to her passing on the visions, she declined, and with the help of her friends, successfully left Pylea and her kingdom in Groo's safe hands. On their journey home, they managed to free former physics student Fred, who joined the team.

Back in LA, Cordelia began to have feelings for Angel, though she remained somewhat unaware of it herself. The effects of her vision worsened. CAT scans showed brain deterioration. on her twenty-first birthday, a particular hefty vision left her in a coma. She projected herself unto the astral plane where she was offered a choice by the demon, Skip who claimed to have come on behalf of the Powers. He offered her the option to continue having the visions, which were never meant for humans, and die young, or to lead the alternate path that she could have taken when she reached LA had she not bumped into Angel.

Offered life or death, she chose life and, although her new TV star life is all she ever hoped, she felt something was missing and chose to have her old life back. In return for her heroism, she is offered the choice of pain-free visions, with the price of becoming half demon. She took the offer and to her surprise didn't develop a tail or anything strange.

The visions become pain free but have other unexpected effects. She discovered she can reenter previous visions and there are occasionally physical manifestations of her visions. She also develops the stunning new power to cleanse evil by emitting a white light. Unknown to her, the entire process has been a manipulation to make her body suitable for use by powerful evil

Life in LA became more complicated when Cordelia became surrogate mother to Angel's son, Connor and Groo arrived in town just as Angel was about to declare his feelings for her. After Angel found them a potion which would prevent Cordelia from losing her visions if she consummated her relationship with Groo and sent them on a vacation. Cordelia returned to find Connor gone and her feelings for Angel growing. When Connor returned from another dimension as a teenage boy out for revenge on his dad, she managed to calm some of his fear and anger with her new power.

Finally, realizing her feelings for Angel, she arranged to meet him. She never made the date however, as she ascended and became a Higher Being. It did not take Cordelia long to find that being a higher being was not as fun as it sounded and after assisting Angel as much as she could from above, she somehow managed to return but without her memory. Finding that Connor is the only one that will tell her the truth, she moved in with him.

Her memory was restored with the aid of a spell performed by Lorne, but not only did Cordelia remember her life as a human, she remembered everything she saw as a Higher Being, which included all of Angelus' ugly past. With the arrival of the beast and the end of the world drawing near, Cordelia found comfort in the arms of Connor.

Their one night of passion resulted in Cordelia becoming pregnant and released a much higher power that had been lying dormant inside her. Having been taken over by this power, Cordelia controlled the beast and persuaded Angel that the only way to beat him was to become Angelus. Once Angel's soul was taken from him under controlled circumstances, she stole his soul so that he would remain Angelus.

Angelus, however, could not be controlled so easily and soon killed the Beast in revenge for old times. Cordelia had not banked on the power of Willow who returned to restore Angel's soul. Defeated, Cordelia revealed to the team that she was pregnant, but Angelus found out her secret and she and Connor ran from the hotel.

In Connor's abandoned warehouse, Cordelia persuaded Connor to kill a virgin girl and use her blood to bless the birth. Realizing they had to kill Cordelia, the team arrived just in time to witness the birth of Cordelia's child. The baby, Jasmine, turned out to be a rather full grown goddess.

After the birth Cordelia fell into a coma in which she remained throughout the rise and defeat of Jasmine and the team's move to Wolfram & Hart. Despite the best care that money could buy, Cordelia never recovered from her coma and finally passed on. In her death, Cordelia's spirit managed one last act of heroism, setting the troubled Angel back on the right path and helping to defeat Lindsey.

Quotes

"And if you get me out of this, I swear I'll never be mean to anyone ever again. Unless, they really deserve it or if it's that time of the month, in which case I don't think you or anyone else can hold me responsible..."

"Darla. It's all about Darla. One thing you can say about Angel, at least he's consistent it's always some little blonde driving him over the edge."

"I know my ABC's, my history, I know who's President, and that I sorta wish I didn't. "

Buffy: Do you really love Xander?

Cordelia: Well, he kinda grows on you, like... a Chia Pet.

Cordelia: Do you know what you are, Harmony? You're a sheep.

Harmony: I'm not a sheep.

Cordelia: You're a sheep. All you ever do is what everyone else does just so you can say you did it first. And here I am, scrambling for your approval, when I'm way cooler than you are 'cause I'm not a sheep. I do what I wanna do, and I wear what I wanna wear. And you know what? I'll date whoever the hell I wanna date. No matter how lame he is.

Willow: Maybe we shouldn't be too coupley around Buffy.

Cordelia: Oh, you mean 'cause of how the only guy that ever liked her turned into a vicious killer and had to be put down like a dog?

Cordelia: This is *great*. There's an unkillable demon in town, Angel's joined his team, the Slayer's a basket case, I'd say we've hit bottom.

Xander: I have a plan.

Cordelia: Oh no, here's a lower place.

Cordelia: Why didn't you tell me you were half-demon? I thought we agreed that secrets are bad.

Doyle: I wanted to tell you. I was afraid. Thought if I did, you'd reject me.

Cordelia: I've rejected you way before now. So you're half-demon - big whoop. I can't believe you think I'd care about that. I mean, I work for a vampire, hello?

Angel: Am I intimidating?

Cordelia: As vampires go, you're pretty cuddly. Maybe you might want to think about mixing up the black-on-black look.

Cordelia: No. If you were a loser, if you were some sick obsessed vampire, you'd go to a Snod demon, or whatever, and get your heart cut out. But you're not. You're a living, breathing... Well, living, anyway - good guy, who's still fighting and trying to help people, and that's not betraying her, that's honoring her.

Angel: You think?

Cordelia: I'm Cordelia. I don't think. I know. Okay?
