In a narrow definition, a comedy is a narrative tale with a happy ending for the protagonist.
Generally, a comedy is intended to amuse its audience. It typically involves some type of apparent danger (including social dangers) which turns out not to actually be dangerous. That may be true for the character, or, as is the case with slapstick, simply be an awareness on the audience's part that what they are seeing is not real.
Many Sci Fi works are comedies and involve humor. Comedy teams, such as The Three Stooges or Abbott and Costello, have included fantastic elements in their productions. Satires and parodies are also common in Sci Fi.
