Columbia Pictures Industries Inc. is an American film and television production company owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment. Originally known as CBC Film Sales Corporation, the company was founded in 1919 by Harry Cohn, Jack Cohn, and Joe Brandt. After buying out Joe Brandt, the Cohn brothers renamed the company Columbia Pictures Corporation in 1924. They produced mainly low-budget Westerns and action flicks. However, in the 1927, following the hiring of director Frank Capra, the company's reputation increased dramatically with a series of successful films such as Lady for a Day, It Happened One Night, and later, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and You Can't Take it With You.
