Click is a 2006 feature comedy in which Adam Sandler's character, Michael Newman, a workaholic in search of a universal remote for all his electronic devices, is given a remote control by Christopher Walken's character, Morty that enables him to control his life. Despite fulfilling his desire, things become complicated when the remote begins to override his choices.

Plot

Michael visits Bed, Bath and Beyond in search of a Universal Remote and discovers a door to "Beyond." There, he finds a man, Morty, and explains he needs a remote control for everything to make his life easier. Morty takes him to "Way Beyond", where they find a self programming remote control. Morty offers it for free with the understanding that there is no returning the device.

When he teasingly attempts to turn down the volume of his dog's barking and it actually works, he believes the cough medicine he took might be making him delusional. He soon realizes it is actually the work of the remote. He returns to Bed Bath and Beyond to see Morty believing he's on some sort of reality show. Morty explains the universal remote controls the universe.

Morty shows him the DVD-like menu options available with the remote and takes him back to a James Earl Jones narrated version of last Tuesday. They also visit the day he was conceived, the day he was born and other points in his life. Morty gives him his card with the offer to call with any questions.

Morty begins to fast forward through the events in his life. He has a talk with Morty who reveals that when he fast forwards through events, his body goes through the events on autopilot. He uses the remote constantly, to pause, fast forward, translate and view past scenes and celebrates making partner at his architectural firm. He soon realizes his boss is withholding his promotion despite promises to promote him. He takes his revenge in a juvenile manner, using the remote to get away with his actions.

He has another talk with Morty who reminds him to be careful with the remote using a metaphor of a gold-chasing leprechaun who eventually discovers nothing but cornflakes in the end. Angry over his boss' decision, he takes out his anger on his family. He fast forwards into the future to the date of his promotion, a whole year later and discovers Janine has married his boss, he's having problems with his wife and his secretary has moved to accounting and gotten a sex change.

The remote then begins to make decisions on its own. It begins to fast forward randomly having made note of his preferences and he misses several important events. He tries to discard and destroy the remote but it keeps coming back.

He jumps to several years later. He is CEO, obese, and divorced. The tree house he planned to build for his children is still incomplete. He gets into an argument with Donna and accidentally slips and hits head; he's knocked unconscious. Six more years pass and he wakes up in the hospital to the news that he recovered from cancer only to have a heart attack. He's achieved every career goal but his family life has suffered. He realizes he's skipped his entire life and mistreated his family.

Morty reveals he's the angel of death. Michael jumps to his son's wedding where he has a heart attack. His son cancels his honeymoon to keep the business running and Michael is determined the give him the message that work isn't more important than his family. He runs out of the hospital into the rain to catch up with him. He collapses but he manages to give the message to his family before he dies.

Michael wakes up in Bed Bath and Beyond where he begun. He's excited to be young and alive and goes to visit his parents in the middle of the night. He wakes up his family and informs his wife they'll be going on the camping trip with them on fourth of July after all.

He finds a bow-tied remote from Morty with a note saying he knows Michael will do things right this time around. Michael throws the remote away. It remains in the garbage.
