Claude Rains (November 10, 1889 London, England – May 30, 1967) is a British stage actor who made his career in Hollywood, often playing suave villains. Except for the last scene, only his voice was heard in his début feature, The Invisible Man (1933). However, despite starring in such films as The Wolf Man (1941) and playing the title role in The Phantom of the Opera (1943), most of his horror appearances are inferior to his other movie work. He was memorable as the eponymous heavenly messenger in Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941), a Satanic emissary in Angel on My Shoulder (1946) and a grumpy Professor Challenger in the 1960 remake of The Lost World
