Chris Columbus

Chris Columbus (b. September 10, 1958 in Spangler, Pennsylvania) is an American producer, screenwriter and director whose most recent production credits include Fantastic Four and Night at the Museum.

Columbus attended the John F. Kennedy High School in Warren, Ohio and later studied at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. His early work in the film industry includes a turn as screenwriter with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Productions. He worked on the memorable films Gremlins, The Goonies. and Young Sherlock Holmes. He also developed the animated series Galaxy high School.

He made his directorial film with the 1987 film, Adventures in Babysitting which starred Elisabeth Shue. He followed up with Heartbreak Hotel and the hit Christmas film, Home Alone. He also served as director of the sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Firmly established in family films, he also took on the comedies Mrs. Doubtfire, starring Robin Williams, Nine Months with Julianne Moore and Hugh Grant and the tear jerker Stepmom, starring Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon. In 1999 he directed Robin Williams again in the family scifi film Bicentennial Man based on the Isaac Asimov short story The Bicentennial Man and the novel The Positronic Man. He also served as producer on Bicentennial Man and also the Arnold Schwarzenegger Christmas film Jingle All the Way.

In 2001, Columbus served as director on the first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone based on the J.K. Rowling novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. He also directed and produced the film's sequel Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He has also directed the film version of the play Rent and serves as producer on the 2007 Fantastic Four sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
