China Miéville

China Miéville(b. September 6, 1972) was born in Norwich and moved very quickly to London. He has degrees in Social Anthropology and International Relations, and a Ph.D in the philosophy of International Law. He has lived, worked and studied in Britain, Egypt,Zimbabwe, and the United States. He was into more or less anything with monsters in it from as young as he can remember, and has never grown out of it. With influences that include M. John Harrison, Gene Wolfe, Dambudzo Marechera, and H. P. Lovecraft, Miéville's first novel was King Rat, (1998), followed by the Arthur C. Clarke Award and British Fantasy Award-winning Perdido Street Station, The British Fantasy Award-winning The Scar and the Arthur C. Clarke Award-winning Iron Council. His novella "The Tain" appeared from PS Publishing with an introduction by M. John Harrison, and the author's first nonfiction book is Between Equal Rights (2005).
