Childhood's End is a 1953 novel by Arthur C. Clarke. The novel was originally published in 1953 and revised in 1990 with a new first chapter. In the novel, a benevolent race of aliens known as "The Overlords", superior to humanity in intellect, technology and society visit Earth. The Overlords transform human society, ending poverty and war and humanity has accepted their presence. Their is a downside to their good fortune however. Without challenges to overcome, humanity has become bored and stagnant and those who resist their far reaching interference suspect the Overlords have a secret agenda.
