Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a 2005 film directed by Tim Burton and written by John August based on the classic Roald Dahl children's book. Johnny Depp stars as eccentric candy maker Willy Wonka a role previously portrayed by Gene Wilder in the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Freddie Highmore stars in the title role as Charlie Bucket one of several children who win the chance to visit Willy Wonka's magical chocolate factory.
