Synopsis
Charlie Jade boasts a gripping near-future ("one half hour from now") detective story set in the Multiverse, using sci-fi film-noir writing and unique visual styling. The series gets its title from the main character Charlie Jade, a private investigator. As protagonist, Charlie is quickly drawn into a bizarre and an unbelievable event that threatens to change the course of human existence.
There are three parallel universes right beside each other, hidden from all but those with the most sinister ambitions. During the pilot episode, scientists from Vexcor Technologies attempt to open a wormhole from Alphaverse to Gammaverse in a bid to drain water from the latter to the former. In Gammaverse, terrorists Bern and Reena -- aware of Vexcor's intent -- prepare to sabotage the facility. Before the stable wormhole can be completed, a massive explosion at the site of the portal (a large open air water reservoir) leads to a chain reaction explosion that moves through all three universes.
Prior to the Vexcor reactor explosions, Charlie follows 01 Boxer in Alphaverse in an attempt to solve the murder of a girl who apparently does not exist according to any known database. Charlie's investigation leads him to the Alpha Vexcor reactor. In Gamma, Bern is killed by Vexcor security while trying to escape from the planted bombs in the reactor. The bombs detonate, and Reena is caught in the explosion and thrown into Betaverse. As the reactor in Gamma explodes, Charlie is caught in the chain reaction in Alpha, and is thrown into Betaverse. He soon discovers that he is no longer in Cape City, but Cape Town, a place he is only barely familiar with.
