Charles Laughton

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Charles Laughton (July 1, 1899December 15, 1962) Stout British character actor who starred opposite Boris Karloff in The Old Dark House (1932). He moved to Hollywood in 1940 and, although married to actress Elsa Lanchester, was haunted by his own homosexuality. Outstanding as the sadistic, whip-cracking Dr. Moreau in Island of Lost Souls (1933), the sympathetic bell-ringer in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) and the displaced spirit in The Canterville Ghost (1944), some of his later performances were served up with a lamentable slice of ham.
