Charles L. Grant

Charles Lewis Grant (b. September 12, 1942 – September 15, 2006) is an Nebula Award-winning American author from Hackettstown, New Jersey. Grant won two Nebula awards for his 1977 short story "A Crowd of Shadows" and his 1979 novelette "A Glow of Candles, a Unicorn's Eye".
The son of a minister, Grant graduated from Kearny High School and got his college degree at Trinity College. He followed up with a stint in Vietnam with the Military Police and earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Following Vietnam, he taught English in New Jersey before beginning his career as a freelance writer in 1975.
