Snapshot

Challenge of the Super Friends is a one season 1978 animated series featuring members of the Justice League foiling the plans of super villains.

Legion of Doom

Fans of DC Comics recognized the thirteen evil-doers who assembled in the Hall of Doom. Although they were generally associated with a specific hero in the comics, they worked together in the TV series to oppose the Super Friends and threaten the world. They were: Aquaman's nemesis, Black Manta; Batvillains The Riddler and the Scarecrow; Flash Rogues Captain Cold and General Grodd; Green Lantern opponents, Solomon Grundy and Sinestro; Superman's foes, Brainiac, Bizarro, Lex Luthor and the Toyman; and Wonder Woman enemies, Cheetah and Giganta.

"Meanwhile...at the Hall of Justice"

There were eight comic book superheroes, along with three new ones. Well, one of the characters is widely considered to have been inspired by a comic book character. Black Lightning apparently had a different rights situation than the better-known Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern, and Hawkman. This may be because he had been introduced the previous year, and would not have been negotiated along with the original Super Friends in 1973.

Instead, Black Vulcan, a similar character, was created. Two other new heroes added to the diversity: Apache Chief and Samurai.
