Catherine Lisa Bell (b. August 14, 1968 in London, England) is an English-born American actress best known for her role as Lt. Colonel Sarah MacKenzie on the series JAG. Bell was born to a Scottish father and an Iranian mother. Following her parents' divorce, she moved to Los Angeles, California with her mother at three years old and became an American citizen at 12. As a result of her Iranian heritage, she is fluent in Farsi.
She attended UCLA, Los Angeles where she hoped to learn to become a surgeon or biomedical engineer. She left college to pursue a modeling career. In her twenties she developed thyroid cancer and had surgery to have the gland removed.
Bell began her film career in the early 90s. She first appeared as a body double for Isabella Rossellini in Death Becomes Her. She also appeared in the series Vanishing Son, and the TV movie Alien Nation: Body and Soul. Other genre appearances include Hercules: The Legendary Journeys as Cynea, The Time Shifters, Bruce Almighty, The Triangle, and the series Threshold.
