In literature, collections are compilations of short fiction or nonfiction by a single author or writing partnership. Publishers contrast collections with anthologies, which contain contributions from multiple writers.
In TV and movies, video collections are matching editions or boxed sets of individual titles connected thematically, or from a single director (Alfred Hitchcock Collection), or featuring an actor or character.
Many Universities, Libraries and Museums have Science Fiction Collections which are usually sponsored by someone. These collections usually have a theme. Many times only parts of collections are available to the public with most of the material being private or available only through subscription.
BookMark Collections are growing steadily as Social Bookmarking and Tagging becomes commonplace. Many people Tag and Catergorize their Science Fiction URLs into a Map of SciFi on the WWW.
There are also many different Personal Collections that deal with a very wide range of articles and subjects. Some peoples collections grow so large they must find alternative housing in order to display them. Sometimes the alternative housing becomes a museum.
Gaming Collections are usually composed of all the games in a particular series.
Miniature Collections range a wide field of themes and are usually accompanied by a Role-playing game or adventure.
Many Science Fiction authors gather collections while writing book series. These collections are often used to stimulate and direct the coarse of storylines and plots.
