Action Figures are toys developed as tie-in products to cartoon and movie media properties. The term "Action Figure" was originally coined for marketing purposes in 1963/64 to refer to dolls by the creator of the G.I. Joe figure who has been quoted as saying he felt that parents would not want their children (boys) to be playing with a doll.
