Dr. Carolyn Lam is a fictional character on the series Stargate SG-1 portrayed by Lexa Doig. She is the daughter of General Hank Landry and the chief medical doctor of Stargate Command. Unlike her predecessor Janet Fraiser, Lam is a civilian. Also unlike Dr. Fraiser, Lam tends to be less emotional and more direct.
Carolyn is not especially close to her father. She grew up with a lot of resentment towards him for his constant absences which he could not explain due to the classified nature of his job. His absences eventually led to the end of his marriage to Carolyn's mother, Kim. The two stopped communicating entirely before took a position at Stargate Command. Carolyn was unaware, when she accepted the tempting position at the SGC, that her father would be the commanding officer of the facility. When the two began working together, Carolyn came to realize the difficulties her father faced working with classified information and dangerous missions. Now in a similar position, she empathized with his conflict.
In only the first few months of her tenure Lam has had to treat patients with staff weapon burns, the effects of alien technology on SGC personnel, and an outbreak of a deadly virus.
