Comics History

Candice revealed in the first season finale, that her regular appearance is among her many illusions. The comics confirmed this. Born, Betty, she was an unattractive, overweight teen, and the butt of jokes of more popular and prettier girls. She discovered her talent for creating illusions when her wish caused boils to appear on the face of a cheerleader. She extended her abilities to the school's star football player, Crash. Unfortunately, his experience was far more crushing and he wound up in a catatonic state following visions of his father as a devilish tormentor.

Her best friend Ren fell under suspicion after Betty's unwitting comments caused Crash's teammates to believe Crash' condition was revenge on behalf of outcasts like Ren. Ren was attacked aby Crash' teammates and he wound up in the hospital critically injured. Feeling guilty for her part in his injury, she showed him her ability. Ren went into shock and died. Betty later took her revenge on her classmates at a pep rally, using her ability to create horrifying images of explosions and melting cheerleaders. Betty later changed her name to Candice.

Series History

Candice was first mentioned in the episode "Homecoming as being on Chandra Suresh' list. She was, at that time stated to be living in Clayton, New York. She made her first appearance in "Company Man", hired by Noah Bennet's superiors to help clean up his mess.

Candice traveled to New York to meet with Isaac Mendez and help allay suspicions about him in connection to the death of Simone Deveaux. Candice used her abilities to take on the identity of Simone, convincing the questioning police officers she was, in fact, alive. She then returned to Texas, acting under the guidance of Primatech associate, Thompson. She took on the identity of Bennet's wife in order to learn more about where he has hidden his daughter. She tried once again to get more information from him by pretending to be Claire Bennet.

Candice took on another task in service of Mr. Linderman. She took on the identity of Niki Sanders in order to kidnap her son, Micah whose abilities would help Linderman achieve his goals. She then traveled with Micah to New York where he discovered her true identity but his attempts to escape her were foiled by her talents at illusion ("The Hard Part"). Candice then took Micah to a voting booth where she asked him to use his technopathic ability to fix the election in favor of Nathan Petrelli ("Landslide").

Following the election, Candice faced off against Niki who arrived to get her son back. Niki manages to knock Candice unconscious causing her illusion of Jessica to fade. Her Candice facade however does not fade.

Candice was next seen overseeing Sylar's recovery in a remote region of Central America. She had taken on a new identity as Michelle. She rescued Sylar from Kirby Plaza and set up a paradise retreat illusion for him to recover in. She seemed to have no fear of Sylar as his abilities were nullified either by his injury or some other means. Her casual display of her ability to create illusions however intrigued him and he killed her without the use of any super powers and took her power ("Kindred").
