Caliphate is a 2008 novel by Tom Kratman. The story is set in the 22nd century when Europe has become dominated by Islamic immigrants who control the theocratic government. Aetheism is unheard of, homosexuals are executed, and Christians demoted to second class citizens without civil rights, or voice. They are also taxed according to the Koranic yizya. Their sons are forced into the military and slavery is legal. A young German girl, Petra, was sold into slavery at age nine to pay her family's yizya and dreams of one day being free. Petra is unusual in he ability to read and holds dearly her grandmother's diary which details the fall of European civilization and a magical place across the ocean called America.
