Within the scifi genre, CGI most commonly refers to Computer Generated Imagery, more specifically, 3D computer graphics. CGI is used in film, television, and video games to create and enhance visual effects and create scenes and situations that would be otherwise be impossible to recreate with live action filming. Some of the better known software used to create CGI effects includes 3d Studio Max and Maya.
