Buster Crabbe (February 17, 1907 Oakland, California - April 23, 1983) was an American actor.
From the jungle to the stars, Olympic gold-medal winning swimmer Buster Crabbe became the movies' pulp hero.
After the success of Tarzan, the Ape Man (starring another Olympic swimmer, Johnny Weissmuller), Crabbe was cast as Kaspa, the Lion King, a similar loin-cloth wearing European raised in the jungle. He followed that by playing Tarzan himself in Tarzan the Fearless.
After a couple of years, he would play Flash Gordon and then Buck Rogers, space age heroes. With ray gun in hand, Crabbe starred in several serials that really set the trend for 1930s space opera.
While his subsequent career was heavily in Westerns (especially as Billy the Kid), he would return to the genre a few more times, notably as "Brigadier Gordon" in an episode of the 1980s TV series, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, bringing Buck and Flash (in last names, at least) together.
