Character History
Buffy Summers was born to Hank and Joyce Summers on January 19, 1981, in Los Angeles, California. She enjoyed figure skating in her youth, and was a big fan of Dorothy Hamil. At age eight, she lost her cousin Celia, when she became ill and entered the hospital. Celia died at the hands of the demon Der Kindestod, which preyed on sick children.
In her teens, Buffy attended Hemery High School in Los Angeles, where she became a popular cheerleader. She even won the titles of Prom Princess and Fiesta Queen before being approached by the Watcher Merrick, who informed her of her destiny as a Slayer. Buffy was resistant to the idea but eventually defeated her nemesis, a vampire named Lothos, setting fire to the high school gym in the process. She also lost Merrick, and to compound matters she was expelled.
Unable to convince anyone of the existence of vampires, Buffy was institutionalized. Realizing her efforts were pointless, she stopped speaking about them and was released. Not long after, her parents divorced and Buffy and her mother moved to 1630 Revello Drive, Sunnydale, California.
Life in Sunnydale
Shortly after moving to Sunnydale, Buffy met her new Watcher, Rupert Giles. She was briefly befriended by the rich and popular Cordelia Chase but the two soon became enemies after Buffy struck up a much more honest friendship with Willow Rosenberg and Xander Harris. The two quickly discovered Buffy's secret life as a superhero, and along with Giles, began to help her perform her Slayer duties.
College Years
Buffy had some difficulty adjusting to college life. Whereas Willow bloomed, Buffy felt lonely and unsure of herself.
Relationships
Angel
Buffy's first love proved to be her most powerful. Their relationship proved impossible not only because of his immortality as a vampire but their inability to enjoy a sexual relationship as this would break the curse that grants him his soul.
Riley Finn
Riley Finn was a TA for Buffy's freshman Psychology class. The two developed an initial friendship that grew into more. The two discovered each other's secret lives and teamed up for a while. Riley believed Buffy was "the one" but was unsure if she felt the same way about him.
Spike
Initially hated nemesis, Buffy and Spike developed a relationship after she was resurrected by her friends. Though lacking a soul, Spike was deeply in love with Buffy, while Buffy was honest about the fact that she used him for physical pleasure.
