Bruce Willis (March 19, 1955 Idar-Oberstein, West Germany - ) is a West-German born American actor.
He first came to fame as the wise-cracking, streetwise partner to Cybil Shepard's sophisticated Maddie Hayes on the 1980s TV series, Moonlighting. He made the jump to movie superstar as John McClane in John McTiernan's Die Hard.
In 1992, he was one of the stars of Death Becomes Her, an Oscar-winning immortality dark comedy.
Auteur directors like Willis. Terry Gilliam (Twelve Monkeys), Luc Besson (The Fifth Element), and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) have all relied on Willis' solid and popular performances.
However, his most well-known genre performance may have been as a much more vulnerable and tortured character. Auteur M. Night Shyalaman's first big hit, The Sixth Sense, starred Willis as a notably insecure child psychologist treating a boy (Haley Joel Osment) who believes he "sees dead people". While at odds with his typical "tough guy" persona, the movie would become one of the highest grossing and simultaneously respected movies of all time.
