Premise

God grants discontented television reporter Bruce Nolan, the power and responsibility of God to see if he can do a better job.

Plot

Perpetually unlucky Bruce Nolan finally loses it on camera when he realizes he's been passed over for the anchor position at a local Buffalo news station. He loses his job and gets beaten by thugs outside the news station while trying to assist a man. Frustrated with God for his lack of good fortune, Bruce is surprised when he is called in for an interview with the almighty.

Having had enough of Bruce's bellyaching, God grants him his powers which Bruce immediately takes advantage of. They come with a small price however, he must hear and answer the prayers of the thousands of Buffalo natives who all want their prayers answered. Rather than take the time to answer each one individually, he grants all their requests causing chaos throughout the city as everyone wins the lotto. Bruce reclaims his job and transforms himself into a news leader but while gaining success, he lets the power go to his head and loses his girlfriend.

Bruce finally comes to realize what is truly important to him and learns to deal with his problems himself. He gives up the powers of god and wins back his girlfriend and learns to enjoy the position he's always had, not as anchorman, but as the reporter who brings good news and a smile.
