Brainiac 5 is a fictional super-hero character who is a member of the 31st century super-hero team, The Legion of Super-Heroes and owned by DC Comics.

Brainiac's ancestor defeated the Computer Tyrants of Colu in the 20th century, inventing a mutagenic stimulator which raised his intelligence. Since then, the title "Brainiac" has been an honorific on Colu. Querl is the fifth Coluan to receive the title in a thousand years.

Querl had already invented the personal force field, the idiomatic translator, and the time bubble when he joined the Legion. As the picture demonstrates, his personal force field comes in handy in a fight. Still, Brainy's greatest invention is the the Legion Flight Ring, which allows all Legionnaires the power of flight, and also serves as a communicator between members. He also invented a force field generating belt, which keeps him safe in battle while other Legionnaires with more aggressive powers do the heavy lifting.

In two incarnations of the Legion, Brainiac 5's invention C.O.M.P.U.T.O. becomes a Legion foe. Also, he seems to be attracted to blonds like Supergirl, with whom, in the Silver Age of Comics, he was romantically linked.
