Robert Bishop, known simply as Bob is a fictional character on the series Heroes portrayed by Stephen Tobolowski. Bob is the head of operation of Head of Operations for "The Company". Bob is one of the Company's founding members and the company's financial supporter. He is one of the few remaining founders still alive and working with the company.
History
Bob first appeared in "Four Months Later" where he attempted to recruit Dr. Mohinder Suresh at a poorly attended lecture in Cairo. Bob offered the company's unlimited resources to Suresh to continue his research on the Shanti virus. Mohinder agreed, but mainly with the secret goal of bringing the company down from the inside.
Bob operates the company mainly from the Hartsdale, New York facility. He gave Mohinder his first assignment, to track down and cure the Haitian who had contracted the Shanti virus. Mohinder complied but instead of bringing the Haitian in he led Bob to believe his memory had been wiped and the Haitian escaped ("Lizard").
Four months prior, Bob had assigned the unlikely pair of his daughter, Elle, and The Haitian to track down company escapees, Adam Monroe and Peter Petrelli. Both men had been detained at the facility under Elle's watchful eye. Neither were recaptured and the Haitian aided in Peter's escape
During that same time period, Bob provided a financial rescue to Niki Sanders and D.L. Hawkins by paying D.L.'s medical bills. He offered Niki a job with the the Company and their help in dealing with her split personality. She declined the offer to visit the Company facility but took the medication offered. After the death of her husband, she asked Bob's help in cure. He requested something in exchange. Once presumed cured, she was briefly partnered with Mohinder ("Four Months Ago").
Bob has, several times, come into conflict with Mohinder in matters of ethics. He has compromised in several situations but compensates for Mohinder's unwillingness to perform acts he considers unethical by partnering him with someone not so hindered such as Niki and his daughter, Elle. He partnered Mohinder with Niki after his refusal to test a strain of Shanti virus on Monica Dawson and take away her abilities. He let Monica go and provided her with tools that could help her ("The Line").
Bob later insisted Mohinder use the same virus to neutralize Maury Parkman who attempted to kill him by manipulating Niki. Mohinder was wary as the new strain may not be curable with his antibodies. When Niki injected herself with the virus to stop herself, Mohinder's reservations proved true when he was unable to cure her. Bob determined the only cure might be Claire Bennet whose regenerative abilities may provide a cure.
Bob plotted to kidnap Claire and kill Bennet. Mohinder, again disagreed with his decision to kill Bennet. Mohinder confessed to having worked with Bennet to bring the company down but changing his mind after seeing what Bennet was capable of. Despite Mohinder's objections, Bob issued him a gun and sent Elle with him to get Claire.
Elle was captured by Bennet and Bob managed to capture Claire. The two exchanged hostages but not before Bob took a sample of her blood. Bennet attempted to Kill Bob but Mohinder saved his life by shooting and killing Bennet. Later, Bob delivered what he claimed were Noah's ashes to his family and promised to leave Claire alone ("Cautionary Tales").
After Bob's daughter Elle, failed to capture Sylar, he chastised her for her failure. Elle realized too late that Sylar would come to find them and discovered Bob's dead body in his office. His ability was taken.
Abilities
Bob showed off his ability to transform one element into another. It is uncertain whether this applies only to metal as the only item he has been seen to transform is a metal spoon to gold. Bob has used his ability to provide the financial backing for the companies' activities.
