Blindness is a 2008 mystery thriller based on the novel Ensaio Sobre a Cegueira by José Saramago. Blindness debuted at the Cannes film festival on May 14, 2008 and opened in US theaters on October 3. In the film, society begins to collapse as an epidemic of blindness wreaks havoc. Julianne Moore plays the wife of a doctor and the only person immune to the blindness. Mark Ruffalo plays her husband.

The movie is filmed in São Paulo with additional scenes filmed in Ontario and Montevideo.
