Bitten is a 2003 novel written by Kelley Armstrong. The novel is the first in her Women of the Otherworld book series. The novel is written in the first person, from the perspective of Canadian werewolf, Elena Michaels.
Plot
Living in Toronto with boyfriend Philip, Elena is doing her best to be as normal as possible. Her attempt to claim normality for herself is interrupted when she is summoned back to Stonehaven, the estate of her Pack in upstate New York. Elena believes that she no longer has a duty to the Pack, having never truly volunteered to join them in the first place. However, pack leader, Jeremy insists that she assist them in hunting down a rogue werewolf, a mutt, who has killed on their property.
Elena's reluctance to return home is in part due to her desire to distance herself from Clay, her former fiance and the man responsible for her becoming a werewolf. She has never forgiven him for biting her and despite Jeremy's kindness, patience, and generosity is reluctant to rejoin pack life.
Despite her reluctance, she falls back into her old life with Clay but their relationship remains volatile and life is complicated by the appearance of deadly mutts determined to take down the pack. Elena must come to terms with who and what she is and decide whether life as a human in Toronto is really what makes her happy.
