Bionic Woman is a 2007 series developed and produced by David Eick for NBC Universal Television Studio. The series is a reimagining of the 1976 series The Bionic Woman and stars Michelle Ryan in the title role as Jaime Sommers. The series has a darker take on the original series concept. It premiered on September 26, 2007 with Michael Dinner as the director of the pilot episode.

Battlestar Galactica actress Katee Sackhoff signed on to the series in a recurring role. The role of Sommers' hearing-impaired sister, Becca, was originally played by Mae Whitman in the unaired pilot. Whitman was replaced by Lucy Hale in the role and her character is no longer deaf.

The series struggled in the ratings and fell behind in production. Eight episodes of the series aired before the writers strike of late 2007 forced production to a halt. The series did not return to production in 2008 after the strike and is not expected to continue.

Premise

Jaime Sommers is a bartender raising a younger teenage sister. When she is hit by a car, her boyfriend, Dr. Will Masters, takes extreme measures to save her life using experimental top secret technology. Jaime is initially uninterested in becoming involved with the top secret agency responsible for saving her life but after realizing the full extent of her abilities, decides to give "saving the world" a try.

Bionic Woman takes a darker view than the original series. Naturally the technology of the bionics has been updated to fit with 21st century advances. In this reimagining Jaime Sommers is not the first woman to undergo the Bionic transformation. There are some hints that the process had negative psychological effects on the first subject, Sarah Corvus and there was a failed attempt to kill her. Jaime undergoes some fairly significant losses at the beginning of the series. Though accepted to Harvard she was forced to forgo attendance to take care of her sister. She also loses an unborn child and not long after, her fiancee as well.
