Billy Campbell

Billy Campbell is an American actor known for his work in television. He was born on July 7, 1959 in Charlottesville, Virginia. He attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago where he studied illustration. He also trained in the performing arts at the Tedd Liss Studio for Performing Arts, The Players Workshop of Second City in Chicago and Howard Fine in Los Angeles.

His first television roles were as a guest star on the series The Rookies, Family Ties, and Hotel. He became a regular character on the drama series Dynasty in 1984. After his run on Dynasty ended in 1985, he continued to work, guest starring on Crime Story and the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, "The Outrageous Okona". He was second choice to play the role of William Riker but Jonathan Frakes was cast in the role instead.

He also had roles in the films Call from Space, The Rocketeer, Dracula (1992), and Enough with Jennifer Lopez. He has guest starred on such popular series as Frasier, The Practice and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and had a starring role in the series Once and Again. More recently he's had recurring roles on The O.C. as Carter Buckley and The 4400 as the charismatic Jordan Collier.

In 2005 he took over a year away from acting to go sailing around the globe with the crew of The Picton Castle. He helped deliver clothing and other supplies throughout the South Pacific. He returned to his role on The 4400 near the end of the series' third season when his character miraculously returned from the dead.

Awards

Campbell has been nominated for several awards including a Golden Globe and a TV Guide Award for his role on Once and Again. He was also nominated for a Golden Satellite for Further Tales of the City. He won a People's Choice Award in the category of Favorite Male Performer in a New Television Series in 1999 for Once and Again.
