Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure is a 1989 scifi comedy starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter. The film was directed by Stephen Herek and written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon. The film was a surprise success and opened in theaters on February 17, 1989. It spawned one sequel, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, and an animated TV series.

Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves star as two not particularly bright teens who will fail to graduate high school unless they can get an A on their history presentation. A time traveling man, Rufus (George Carlin), comes from the future to help them on the premise that their success on this report is vital to a Utopian future in which the music of their future band Wild Stallyns guides the world to peace, love and people being excellent to each other. Bill and Ted travel through time collecting historical figures like Socrates, Joan of Arc and Billy the Kid, to complete an excellent report that wows both teachers and fellow students.
